The lead up to Christmas is a busy but enjoyable time. As well as preparing for the holiday period with our families, December is the month when we Mosmanites finally wind down on work and catch up with the people we’ve been meaning to see with all year.

One of the most appealing things about living in Mosman is you can enjoy an evening drink in a stylish venue and be only a short walk or Uber ride from home.

Take a look at some of the most popular and highest rated bars in Mosman for Christmas 2019.

The Fernery

Located on the top of the Mosman Club, this rooftop venue is credited with “saving Mosman’s nightlife”. The result of an overhaul of the club’s image, The Fernery is cementing itself as the place to be this summer.

Perfect for a warm evening, this venue has to-the-minute decor, views extending from the Heads to the Harbour Bridge and rosé on tap. Reviews describe it as “Ferntastic”, with “quality food” and “recommended for a relaxed, comfortable evening.”

After opening The Fernery, Mosman Club saw its member numbers soar, with the venue bringing fresh appeal to a younger local demographic.

The Hunter

If you’re a discerning drinker who is looking for quality, The Hunter is your destination of choice for pre-Christmas beverages.

On offer here is a “continually evolving selection of bespoke wines from around the world”. You’ll also find craft beer, unique cocktails and first-class spirits, which you can pair with a selection of tapas-style dishes.

The Hunter is all about keeping it local by focusing on winemakers, producers and local families. The staff are passionate about serving the best brews and beverages, and will make personal recommendations.

Stranded Gourmet

You’ll never feel stranded with access to this bar’s list of craft beers, creative cocktails and wines from boutique Australian producers and international specialists.

Led by Sam Fallows, an alum of both Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House and Spice I Am in Darlinghurst, this venue sources mostly local produce for its evening menu. Customers rave about the quality of the food, almost all of which is created in-house.

Head down to Stranded on the first three Saturday evenings in December to enjoy live guitar performances from Mosman musician Phil Moore.

Barrel Bar and Dining

As the proprietors (both sommeliers) will tell you, “Barrel knows wine”. Located in Cremorne, this is another venue for those with a palate that won’t settle for anything but the best.

The wine list at Barrel Bar features bottles from France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, and top picks from around Australia. If you find something you enjoy, you can always order a bottle (or more) from the venue’s carefully curated bottle shop.

As well as praising the extensive drinks menu, reviewers describe the food at Barrel Bar as “exceptional”, “cooked to perfection” and “a stand out”.

SoCal

SoCal on Young Street in Neutral Bay evokes the laid back surf vibe of southern California. With a rooftop terrace, this place is perfect for summer cocktails or happy hour. You can also bring a group of four or more for a bottomless rosé lunch over the weekend.

This location is very Instagram-friendly and hip, with hanging baskets of greenery and snap-worthy dishes. There is a selection of beers and wines for $5 during Happy Hour (4:30 – 6:30 pm weekdays), plus frozen cocktails for $12. The bar hosts acoustic music sessions on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Grab a margarita and get into the holiday spirit.

Honey Rider Bar & Brewery

Now celebrating its seventh birthday, Honey Rider has come a long way. Beginning as a cocktail bar, the venue added the tiniest of micro-breweries in 2015 before expanding into the ‘Thai Laundry’ next door and doubling its capacity.

This “cool local joint” is a place to enjoy catching up with friends without worrying about being seen by the hip crowd. Come for the drinks and stay for the live music and laid back atmosphere.
